Design in Our Lives

At this week's art class, we went to MOMA museum again .We went through the entire third floor, which is about design and architecture. There are some high functionality designs and some low functionality designs. Also i saw few designs that i can not recognize what it is. like "bee's project ". But  i had a lot of fun . Because the architecture designs are really cool and beautiful.

I picked four designs, two are high functionality designs and the other two are low functionality designs. I chooses "Bellflower Lamp" and "Endless Flow Rocking Chair" as high functionality designs. I chooses those two designs because they matches each other. I meant from design and the color. The lamp is banded the height is perfectly fit with the chair. The color of designs also similar with green. The chair can be used in our lives. It can be used as book chair, dining chair or just regular chair. Plus the the lamp can be used in our lives , at night when we setting in the chair we can use the lamp to light it up , just like light in our home.

The other two low functionality designs that i chooses are "Honey-pop Armchair" and " IN-EI Mendori Lamp". The chair is made of paper. The reason why i picked those two designs as low functionality designs are because of the material. Even though the designs perfect and beautiful , but the function is very low. The paper chair we never can set in there, and the recycled-pet lamp if the light-ball's temperature goes high probably it can cause to fire. Then it will be dangerous. Those two designs probably just for exhibition.

If i were a artist i will change the material to fabric instead of paper. Because fabric is more soft and when you setting in the chair it makes you more comfortable. The lamp i will change the material to metal instead of recycled-pet. For longest term, i think metal is a perfect material.

I think function and design are not directly proportional. We can not say if the design is perfect then the function is high. They are not related each other. Simple design can be high founctional. So i think design and function are separate.  Art and design are from artist's idea. I think whatever  the design looks like it should be called art. Because the artist made it and titled it as art.

Art and Identity: The Museum of Modern Art

In last art class we went to MOMA PS1 which located in manhattan. I was so excited because i never been museum before .  A lot of paintings and sculptures were in front of me. I could feel the artist's expression through some paintings and sculptures, but some artworks even though i looked again and again,it still pull me in the puzzle.

This is lithograph by Edvard Munch titled "Jealousy I" . Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter and printmaker. Through this artwork the man in the front looks so jealous, because of those couple in the back. I guess maybe the lade in the back could be the wife or girlfriend of the man in the front. But she dumped the man and find a gentleman. This is my expression of this artwork, i just guess so. Maybe i watched too much dramas. But this scene can happen in our life. Everybody can jealous. Actually i am jealous type. I am jealous If my classmate got better grade than me, if my friend bought a fancy brand new bag. So this artwork i can easily understand what artist tried to tell us. Because that is one part of our life.

This painting is painted by French artist named
Henri Matisse. Titled "Dance I". Through this patting, i could realize this artist painted the body figure of women when they move and dance. They look like  turns clockwise.  They are dancing in this painting, i could see how creatively the artist made these overlaps in the painting. Those five figures of movement made me want to dancing with them.

When i looked at this patting, i was scarred. After I saw the title" hide and seek" by American artist Pavel Tchelitchew.Begun in Vermont during World War II, Hide-and-Seek presents an apocalyptic vision of the childhood game of its title. At first i thought in this pairing , artist wants to express tree is firing . But i looked the tittle and look again, i saw few babies with their open mouse. I don not know why this patting is like one horror scene of horror movie. This pairing bring me to the cruel war, and those babies were died during the war. Those souls moving around and they play hide and seek. Actually when i was young, i played hide and seek with my friend. That moments could be the best memories in my childhood. But this patting , i feel sad and fear.

I think those three personal , culture and historical identity  are related to each other . Personal identity can reflect to culture ,also culture identity can reflect to personal. Though this field trip i can better understand what is art. Art is a creative way of life. I think every one's life is just like a art.

Good art and bad art

Good art, i think good art is  through my sight i can easily realize what artist trying to tell me from the art. because I am neither artist nor professor of art. I am a amateur at art. there are a lot of famous artist  and a lot of infamous artist in the world. they are all artist. For me good art is i could feel the way that the artist trying to tell us.like above picture that i attached. This is man in the boat alone . i feel two way in this picture , one is lonely and outsider the other is freedom.

Bad art, i think bad art is the opposite side with good art that what i thought. Of course the functions and the purpose are important . Even effect to our society . But i think if we can even know what is about the art it probably nothing. Because i think the most important thing is first response for me. like below picture that i attached.i do not know what artist try to tell me. it is confused me. As you can see through the picture women from the tree and they were tied.i feel nothing on this picture. Maybe this is my personal feeling even no one agrees with me , but it is just like what i feel about art .
